Where to put project assets was created by PhilCF
Hi Guys,
Just wondering where you keep assets associated with the projects / videos you are making. Stills, downloaded sound effects, and other visuals.
I usually keep them in a separate folder on the same drive as the library and then when I move the library, I move the folder too.
I was just wondering if there was a better / more elegant solution. Convention as it were.
Phil

There are various theories. You basically do what you like to do, or are comfortable with from previous experience with other media editing apps, until you come up against the features/limitations of FCPX's media handling. If you are importing using managed media (copy to library), everything thing gets neatly copied to your library. If you want to use external resources, your FCPX media folders (inside the library) will be full of symbolic links.
Your handle suggests you are an After Effects user? When I built huge projects in AE, I had a carefully organized folder structure. With FCPX, I just enjoy having events (which appear as folders in the media packages) and know that everything is getting copied to the library. This takes a bit of planning, I have found.
Others prefer to use carefully parsed external media organization because that's what their experience, workflow habit, or specific requirement is on a particular project.
Give the forum a few days and you should get some conflicting and helpful advice form far more experienced users .
