Image Capture deleting metadata/date

Hi I have a camera that only shoots in AVI, i've learned how to convert them to be used in FCPx, but just realized that Image Capture is deleting the date of the file whenever I import. It is wierd because the Image Capture import window shows the correct date next to the file, but after I have imported the file and view it in the finder, it only shows the date and time that Image Capture imported it.

I need the date to be included in my files- Could anyone please offer advice on how to fix this? I couldnt find any similar issues online. Should I use a different app than Image Capture? Any suggestions?
