Egads--Help

10.3.1 was pretty crashy for me but now I can't edit at all. Beach balls after just a couple of minutes, then freezes, sometimes whole system freeze.

Trashed prefs, deleted the app and reinstalled, ran Cocktail (system maintenance) on my new mac pro... Also ran disk warrior on the T-2 Pegasus drive my libraries and media are on.

Created a brand new library, copied the projects (some into). New library had the same issues.

I'm effed. Any thoughts? Yikes, this is just terrible.

What OS? I don't think I've ever had FCPX ever crash on me, at least not in recent memory. What other apps do you have running that most other people might not?

try setting up a new user account and see if the problem is there as well

Thanks. Tried most of those--still in the weeds.

Have tried this: exporting an xml of the project, creating a new library, and importing the xml--which almost works but the XML needs to transcode some optical flow stuff, and then once it does, there's not project--like the import never happened.

What percentage of your system drive is free space?
Did you run Disk Warrior on your system drive?

on my new mac pro, about 40GB free on a 250GB SSD.

Tried Disk Warrior on the external drive where the library and media.

Also, not having this issue on other drives--or, I think, other libraries on the same drive.

Run it on the System drive, that can effect how Libraries and apps behave.

On a 250 GB drive, you need to maintain a minimum of 37.5 GB free space. You're getting close to that. I'd clear out that system drive a tad, run Disk Warrior on it. A system drive in bad health can cause odd symptoms in many unexpected places.

What percentage of the external drive with the Libraries is free space? Just to cover all possibilities.

Create a new Library, new Project. Open the original Project, select all, copy. In the new Project, paste, see how that goes.

Thanks, yes, had done all of those--and at least 1TB free on the external drive.

I'm back cutting now--the solution seemed to be--remove all effects. One of my plug ins was the culprit, not sure which one, but I use a lot: slice x, color finale pro, denoiser, crumple pop audio stuff, and a few others. one of them is the culprit I believe. once I complete my add and go and add back in effects, I can hopefully determine which was the culprit and will share.
