Hi,

I searched the forum for this topic but could not find anything. I am having an issue. When the playback shows my video, the brightness level changes mid clip for no reason in like all my clips. This also happens after exporting to master file in ProRes 422. Is there a way to fix this?

Thanks in advance

Does this happen in the Browser, and/or Timeline?
What camera were these shot on?

And are you sure there is "no reason"? Is the video file from the camera clean?

I have come across this problem with certain cameras.

Go Pro Hero 4 Black and Hero 5, in particular. Though I'm sure I've also seen in other camera footage- I can;t recall off the top of my head what cameras they were.

The issue appears to be associated with the way the files are encoded by the camera and the way FCP's latest color management is trying to handle it under the hood. I say this because Before 10.3, the same footage would work with no issues in FCPX.

The solution that I have found to work every time is to have FCPX transcode to prores:

1. Choose all the footage with this problem in FCPX's Browser
2. From the File Menu, Choose "Optimize Media"
3. Pick "Optimize Media" and leave "Proxy Media" unchecked.

You can click on the progress circle in the top left of the interface to get a detailed status of each file being transcoded.
Depending on how many clips you have, it may take awhile.

Let us know if you get this resolved.

It was shot on a go pro hero silver 4. It's on every single clip, a couple seconds into every clip. It happens in the playback window, and after I export it to a master file in Prores 422. I will try to optimize all the media (around 3 hours of footage). For now I will continue editing until the final video is much smaller, and then convert to optimized media to see if that works. Scott, for step 2, I dont see an optimize media choice. Should I choose "transcode media?" Thanks for your help.

If it happens at the exact same place on each clip and you can see it happening on the scopes (important quality check) then it's probably the media itself. Very likely you are just seeing the auto exposure adjustment. But I'm not looking over your shoulder so impossible to tell from here. Thing to look for is patterns and electronic signatures in the waveforms.

When I first saw this problem, the color shift appeared to be happening at a precise timecode each time the clip was played.

Upon careful scrutiny, it turned out the color shift was, in fact, at slightly different times on the clip. It happened NEAR the same time each time it was played, but not always at the exact same time.

Hope this has helped.
