Camera controller/manager

Hi, i am wondering if there is any kind of software which would allow me to connect basic controls of multiple cameras in my studio on my mac. The controls i'd like to be able to use are mostly just record and stop (also possibly the ability to see the live video feed, but that wouldn't be as important). This would be great because i could then use a program like keyboard maestro to trigger the cameras using a footpedal. I use different brands of camcorders, point and shoot, and ios cameras if it matters (but even if there was an something that just worked with brand, that would be good). Not sure whether it'd be a third party app that runs completely independently of FCP or intertwined in some way.

Has anybody heard of something like this before?

My coworker uses WireCast. Multiple camera inputs, multiple ways to output. Doesn't come directly into FCPX, though.

(Can't help you with a recommendation but he likes it. I refuse to get involved in switching live shows these days. Did that for decades.)
