Anyone know how to apply a photoshop-style gradient map in FCPX?

Newbie here; be gentle.

Thanks!

Not totally sure, but you can use the Color Board to desaturate an image to make it black and white, and adjust the color pucks to adjust the balances of the grayscale over the image. Photographers have been keen to this for ages. Not sure it is the same thing, but from what little i know about the PS gradient map, it is very similar, if not the same.

I was looking for the same thing. There's a filter in Motion called "gradient colorize". There might be a plug in somewhere, but $50 for motion is totally worth the price.
You can pretty easily open Motion, create an fcp effect, apply the gradient colorize to the effect source and publish the gradient. Here's the trick... there's no pulldown to publish the gradient to FCP. You need to look at the filters tab in the Motion inspector, control-click on the line that says "gradient" and select "publish" in the context menu. Save that to your effects, and have fun.
