I filmed a tree lighting ceremony and my iso setting was way to high. I now have a video with lots of ugly noise in it! Does anyone have a trick to help? without buying plugins...

You can try my rebel noise suppression plugin. It's available here:
web.uvic.ca/~fsorvin/02-blog/fcpx_rebel_colour_grader2.html
It's basically a dolled up Gaussian blur, with a bit of subtlety and a good dosage of tweak-ability. It lets you concentrate the noise suppression effect on shadows, or the overall image.
Might do the trick. And it's free and made from ordinary household Motion effects.
Let me know how it works for you. It's the same kind of thing the old hats at ILM used to do in Shake to cleanse their noisy images.

I know you said 'without buying plugins' but out of interest take a look at Neat Video. I think it's still the best noise reduction plugin. It can rescue footage you'd think was pretty unusable. I have been using it for years and it still surprises me. You need to experiment and tweak the settings to get the best from it.
The full version is $99 but well worth it. It works fine on FCP 10.3. too.

I agree with that. I have both Neat and Photon Pro. Photon Pro is pretty fast but the results are not nearly as good. Neat is very compute-bound to run, although it does have an optimization function which sizes your hardware and recommends # of cores and whether to use GPU acceleration or not.
The price isn't much if you consider the cost of re-shooting or losing the scene. Unless it's the last mistake you'll ever make, you'll be using it again, so it's $99 amortized over many saved shots across years of time.
