HELP PLEASE - Proxy management for stills and audio was created by Overturf
Hi everyone!
I have created a new library on drive A. The footage is also on drive A but not in the library, it's in an external folder. When importing I chose to leave the files there. Footage includes movies, audio and stills.
After importing the footage I had it all transcoded into proxy. In my library settings I chose to store the cache (and so the proxies as far as I understand it) in my library itself.
I then copied that library including the proxies to another drive B. This is a small portable drive. You see where this is leading, I want to edit on the road with proxies only.
Here's the thing: After disconnecting drive A and opening the library from drive B the movies work just fine but I have missing files for stills and audio. No proxies were generated for those. Library on drive B works fine as long as drive A (with the original media) is still connected but not without drive A. This is not what I want.
Clicking on the stills/audio and trying again to transcode it leads nowhere, it's all greyed out.
What can I do to get the stills and audio onto drive B so that I can use it properly in proxy mode? Stills are not super important but audio is critical.
I'm on Sierra and 10.3 and working on an rMBP from last year.
Any advice is much appreciated!
Have a good day,
Sebastian

Cache doesn't include transcoded media. Those are in a folder in the media location.

Thanks, Tom. Not sure if we understand each other correctly, though. The settings I have work fine for everything except for audio and stills. My 600+ clips got transcoded into proxy and stored properly in Drive B/Project Library/Event Name/Transcoded Media/Proxy Media (if you look into the library package). So the proxies are stored in the library and I can use that library fine without the original media attached. So the cache settings seem about right. But what is it about the stills and audio?
I could of course re-import the stills and have them copied straight into the library instead of storing them externally and creating proxies. But I have already synced audio and it would be a pain to have to go through that again, so importing audio again into the library is out of the question, I guess.
Ideas? Thanks again!

Stills and audio don;'t have proxies. FCP uses theme from the original media folder. You can also try copying these items into the proxy folder. This works with some versions.

Hi Sebastian
What if you store the Audio and Stills on Drive B, Import into FCPX with "Leave Files In Place", create your proxy files and locate to Drive B. Now you should have the ability to access the proxies, audio and stills while on the road. You will have to plug in Drive B while editing for either proxies or original media.
Hope this helps, Greg

Hi Greg,
thanks, that would be a good idea if I started from scratch and I will know better next time. Now I'm already into editing, though, all the audio is in use in synced clips. Would love to avoid redoing stuff.
Will try odedh's and Tom's approach first and post back after that.
Thanks all!

So I did like odedh suggested and it worked great. Problem solved.
Anyway I find this a pitfall, don't you think? If you select all files and click "transcode to proxy" you should at least get an information that some files will not be transcoded and should be taken care of separately, don't you agree?
Thanks everyone!
