Best "FCPX way" to overwrite connected clip?

I'm editing a 4-way split screen where each quadrant is essentially a separate timeline, with each clip about 2 sec long. There is a "track" of clips in the primary storyline and the three other "tracks" exist as lanes of connected clips, each corresponding to 1/4 of the screen.

I need to swap out a 2 sec connected clip with a better one I found the the Browser. The new one is interlaced so I had to first provisionally add it as a connected clip so I could get access to Inspector>Info and enable deinterlacing and check the quality. Once satisfied, I am ready to overwrite this to the original connected clip. If it were Premiere I'd just drag it down from track 5 to track 2.

In FCPX the procedure is:

(1) Make original connected clip its own secondary storyline
(2) Click on secondary storyline frame (not the clip)
(3) Enable position mode (P key)
(4) Drag down new clip from higher lane to target connected clip, overwriting it

I am always looking for better ways to do things the "FCPX way". Is there a better way to do this when editing multiple split screen where each sub-screen corresponds to a lane of clips and you often need to swap or adjust clips between lanes?

Select the clip you want to replace and hit X. Mark the in-point of the clip you want to replace it with and hit Q to attach it above the clip to be replaced. Copy and paste the attributes of the original clip to the new clip. Delete the old clip. If the old clip is in a secondary storyline just drag the new clip into the storyline ahead of or behind it and then delete the old clip.

I also recommend Hawaiki Auto Split for split screens. Quick and easy.

I'd do this, but then, I'm just lazy:

- Highlight connected clip in timeline.
- Set an In point (i) for the new media to use in the Browser.
- Option-R to do a "Replace from start" edit.
- Pour a whiskey while your wait for other NLEs to finish doing the same thing.

Note; "option-r" is really easy to remember, replace with the option of doing it from the start frames.
