FCPX 10.3 Flow Transition

I've had a play around with this transition and looked online at a couple of videos too.
But when I've tried dragging and dropping it onto the timeline after cutting out a few seconds of an interview, the flow transition changes the clip image into a sort of slow mo for a second or two at the point of the cut. It doesn't look right at all and certainly would not be useable in a finished edit.
For info, the clips I've used are just talking heads shot on a tripod, so no obvious sudden or unexpected movement, etc.
The online videos have the effect working.
Am I doing anything wrong?

Thanks for that.
But in the Inspector, there was no option to change the duration of the transition?

Easier, select the transition itself (or a clip, or anything) and double-click the timecode display. It shows the current duration. Simply type in a new one, hit enter. Control-D is so 10.2...
