Stupid Roles shortcut! 10.3

So what the hell is going on with this!
In the browser with a clip selected the spacebar brings up a quick link to assign roles?
I don't want that!! Can't find how to make it just play what is selected without having to click the clip at the top! Can't have this! Help!

Also I accidentally opened the event viewer and can't toggle this sucker off?

OK I found the event viewer thing under workspaces

As in 10.2 you have to click the clip's filmstrip to play, in list view. The roles popping up is annoying. Feedback page time...

I suppose you are in list view.
I'm not sure what you are doing, but it does not seem normal.
1) the space bar should not bring up anything related to roles. It plays/pauses whatever clip is selected.
2) it is not necessary to click anything. One can just select clips with the up and down arrows, and press space to play.

Delete preferences. Let us know if it fixes things.

hmmm. I don't remember 10.2 acting that way, but you're probably right.

Also do you know if they took away the command, 1 quick key? I used Command 1 and command 2 to activate browser and timeline windows without having to click in them.
Can't find how to assign it back, if you know, I'd love to know too!

Command-1 and Command-2 work the same way as before, if you use the default set of commands.
In fact, to my mind there is an improvement: there is now a visual clue to indicate which pane is active - a thin purple line at the top of it.

Ah yes. I've confused things with some custom keyboard layout.
10.2 did highlight but yes very subtly.

I get the roles menu popping up when I hit the space bar, also. That is, if I do not highlight the filmstrip above the list first. So, you're not alone.

I've modified my keyboard comands again and now I've gotten back to using "command 1" to highlight the Library browser window. From there I can use arrow keys and the spacebar to play through clips without having to go up and click on the film strip. If that makes sense.

I've tried everything. Spacebar brings up roles dialog unless I click the clip's thumbnail first.

I've trashed pref and emptied the trash. Restarted. Default key commands in the keyboard editor. Does the same thing on another machine.

Finally fixed the CMD Option M issue where instead of Match Color it would minimize all windows of the front app,

Instructions to reinstall the app? FCPX 10.3 in 2016 this still is recommended?

I can't replicate this behavior. Fresh install of Sierra and FCP X (10.3, automatically updated to 10.3.1). Spacebar always toggles playback, no matter which workspace, no matter which window is active. Assign roles has (really?) no own key, it seems to be available only through right-clicking or in the inspector.

If you have the Roles column showing in your Browser, yes, space bar mistakenly opens them. They have a disclosure triangle in those fields to open them, no right-click needed, when the Roles columns are showing.

I find if I have no audio role specified in that filed for a clip, space opens the disclosure triangle to show me keywords, ranges, etc. How I have clips with no audio role assigned, I've no clue.

You mean this?

I see the disclosure triangles, but I can't even select them with down arrow like the rest. I can't open them with the keyboard, at least not with usual ">" command, and space plays a project or a clip (if opened).I need to directly click on the triangle. It seems the whole keyboard navigation doesn't work as before (see this MBS-episode). Shift+Tab jumps to timeline (same behavior as shift alone), not the columns. Very strange. I'm sure it's my fault ...

Yes, that is what we're talking about. Problem is, I work with the Roles columns daily. The bug really gets to be annoying.
