Dear newfound friends,
I've been acquiring some 50 odd miniDV tapes from a Sony TRV-900E via Firewire onto my iMac.
Because of a problem with the camera, the footage has been imported as around 1800 "fragments" sometimes of only a couple of seconds, sometimes up to 20 mins each.
I just want to simply render these 1800 segments onto a timeline and I'll cope with the glitches/dropouts.
My problem and request for help is about a way to automate a Date:Time title ...
I would like to display a Date:Time title (as found in the "Lower third" section of the titles browser, for a few seconds, but only every time the day changes.
So I might have 50-200 segments of say 3rd November 2000, then the start of a series of segments with a 6th November 2000 metadata and would love if I could automate this.
Is there any way to achieve this ?
As you can imagine almost 2000 segments which span from early 2000 to 2010 would be a nightmare to handle manually.
Thank you so much in advance.

creating a title showing the timestamp just for a few seconds, shouldn't be no rocket-science …
But that Boolean part ("IF new day THEN showTC NOT nil") isn't possible with Motion.
Boolean, or elaborated physics or tic-base behaviours were on my personal Wishlist for Motion v5_3…- unfortunately Cupertino doesn't listen to me
… but…:
FCPX' event browser in list mode shows the timestamp… so, instead of pouring 2000 clips in a 50h timeline (just kidding, you don't do that … do you??), you can select all clips from one day, E to add to your timeline and shift-T to add a Time/Date title to this selection
… <cough> and what about editing?
Wouldn't it be much more convenient to select the highlights of 10y into charming 15-20 min and THEN apply T&D?
FCPX supports you with its mighty meta-data management, selecting favourites first, then for example all clips from one year, etc etc
Finally, Welcome, Robert, to fcp.co
