Extend edit multiple clips at once

Is there a way that we can select multiple stacked clips and extended them all at once? I think the answer is no.

Now that we can top and tail trim multiple clips at once, it got me thinking about the reverse edit operation. Would have came in handy today.

Dug through the manual didn't come up with anything.

You cannot select them all and drag to extend, but you can select them all and use Control D to bring up the duration in the timecode window and then type in a longer or shorter duration to have them all adjust accordingly.

Creating history....one edit at a time !

Control-D is an awkward shortcut. Just double-click the timecode display, type in a new duration. New 10.3 feature.

Thanks for the quick feed back on this.

I could work this way for the time being, it's just not as elegant as I'd like. I think being able to select multiple clip edges or clips and then being able to extend them all at once would be a great feature request. Much faster than changing duration.

That was actually in older versions of FCP. It was broken for some reason in 10.2 with a couple of other editing functions.

Hey guys,

So there actually is a way to do this. I found it out by accident as I was looking for a solution. Check it out:

If you go to Final Cut Pro > Commands > Customize you'll see a keyboard and if you type ']' key to the left of '\' the action of what we're trying to do is called Select Right Edge.

So in the timeline if you place your playhead over the end edge of the clips you want to "Extend Edit" then his the ']' key it selects ALL THE EDGES OF THOSE CLIPS!!!!! AMAZING! Then you simply place your playhead where you want them all to end up and go to Trim > Extend Edit or 'Shift + x' and VIOLA!!!!!

Nate, when I got the notification that you had updated this thread I got excited.

It sort of works, but is still not what I've come to expect from an NLE.

If I have a connected compound clip, 2 connected video clips, and a clip on the primary storyline all starting at the same point, the command only selects the 2 connected clips. It ignores the compound clip and the clip in the primary story line. So there is still no way to trim the entire "stack" at once.

I also wish once all the edges are selected you could drag them to trim as well.
