Default Transition in 10.3

I'm puzzled. Am trying to use the keyboard shortcut (CMD - T) in 10.3 to add a cross dissolve as I've done many times before in previous versions. Now when I try it I got the audio 'bong' that tells me it won't work.

I've tried to reset crossfade as the default transition but it doesn't seem to stick. In preferences everything seems normal. Has anyone got a solution for this or has anyone else has this happen? So far everything else in 10.3 seems to work as expected.

No problems with that. Are you sure you have the project timeline active and a clip selected when you do this?

Creating history....one edit at a time !

Thanks dgwvideo - that solved it. I had the timeline active but hadn't selected a clip. Had the playhead where I wanted the transition too, but... another senior moment...

Actually, this is changed in 10.3, unfortunately. In 10.2 all you needed to do was have the playhead on an edit point, Cmd-T, done. Now you have to either select the clip itself, or select the edit point first. So no, not a senior moment, just a change in FCPX behavior.

Nice to know it wasn't me (for a change). I do prefer the old way even though it's only 1 click less. Thanks EditorGuy

Yeah, one thing I also miss about 10.2. But, loving 10.3 a lot. After editing two TV shows, 10 episodes each, I can't stand the 10.2 UI. Weird, eh?
