10.3 Open in Timeline gone?

'Open in Timeline' seems to have been replaced by 'Open Clip' - but it gives no possibilities to edit (on-the-fly) as Open in Timeline did. Seems useless to me now. Editing audio (or any clip not on the primary timeline) with on-the-fly in and out points was always a pain in FCPX but then if I opened say a music track with 'Open in Timeline' I could edit it down on-the-fly, go back to the project and it would be an edited clip within itself (if that makes sense).
Has that functionality gone or am I missing something? I shall cry if it has gone.

I just ran into a similar issue! I Synchronized Clip with 1 Audio file and two Video files. Not that I have to 'Open Clip' instead of 'Open in Timeline' I've noticed I can't use the "Overwrite to Primary Storyline" (CMD + Option + Down) to overwrite my 2nd video clip into he same storyline as the first. It also won't let me "Lift" the first clip. This means that the "Clip" doesn't act like a "Timeline" has previously.
Does anyone know why this is?

I have full editing functionality for a clip opened into its own timeline. What exactly do you mean by on-the-fly? Edit functions while playing back? I have that, too. Not sure what's going on with your system.

In the last version of FCPX I used Open in timeline to edit music. Then I could edit the music in its own timeline and all edits would ripple up so to speak to the parent timeline. Way more efficient then trying to edit music attached to the storyline. Using Open Clip is acting a bit weird here. As it looks almost the same however once back in the main timeline the music track does not have audio. It is not muted, just no waveforms and not hearing anything. In the open clip side the roll changed from Music - 1 to Dialog -1 If I go back to the Open Clip the audio plays and I can see and hear my edits. Hmmm
