join clips NEVER works

I have a clip that i used the blade tool to make through edits then I realize I didn't need different effects at different parts of the clip so I want to get rid of the blade cuts and just have it all be one clip again but when I highlight to 4 clips and click "join clips" it does not work even if it try to just highlight 2 clips and click 'join clips' it doesn't work...Currently the clips are speed up to 200% and I want to join them all just so it is easier to edit instead of having 4 clips that are speed up to 200%...Is it because they are retimed that hey won't join?

I feel like i remember having non speed up clips in previous projects where the "Trim>Join Clips" still did not work....
