Longstanding Timeline Clip Renaming bug not fixed. was created by dmb
I am very disappointed that a longstanding bug has not be fixed, related to renaming clips in the timeline. For clips renamed in the timeline, after the next restart of FCPX, the used media indicator for that clip no longer shows in the browser. I would make good use of both renaming the clip in the timeline as well as being able to count on used media ranges showing in the browser. As it is, I do not rename clips in the timeline.
I have reported this via both the public feedback page and the developer bug reporting, on several occasions. I was really hoping it would be fixed with this update.
I would appreciate anyone else who would like this fixed to report it to Apple via the FCPX feedback page. The more than report on it, the higher the likelihood it will be fixed - one would hope, anyway.

Hi David,
I think the general idea is to do any organizing and clip naming prior to editing, which makes clip renaming in the timeline redundant. That's probably why your request may not be very high on the priority list. But I do agree it would be a nice addition. So keep sending these reports.

Hi Ronny,
Thanks for your thought on this issue. In my work, a single clip may contain two or more portions which are sufficiently different, such when I copy those portions to the timeline, a single name (as established for the entire clip in the browser) is not very descriptive for each clip,in the timeline. If I use FCPX's feature to rename the clip in the timeline, I must give up the used media ranges in the browser. However, I find the used media ranges to be very useful. If this bug were fixed, I would make a lot of use of both renaming in the timeline and used media ranges.

That makes perfectly sense. I will support your request by sending one myself. Not that this will make much difference
but the more they hear about this, the more chance we have of getting this fixed.

This is similar to the annoying fact that if you rename a clip in the browser after having added it to the timeline, the name change is not passed through to the timeline clip.
I often edit projects that self-editing directors have started (roughly) and they rarely name, keyword or role clips properly before inserting shots into a project.
