LUT in Log Processing tab was created by Ponponpostprod
HI,
I've to work with D-Cine GH4 Footage and it 'll be nice if i could add custom LUTs to the basic list that is available in Log Processing tab within FCPX.
Is it possible as it is in Media Composer source setting ?
The biggest advantage of doing this way, instead of an effect layer, is it doesn't need to apply effect on each edited shot and it's easy to remove.

Hi Ponponpostprod, hi all!
i don't use LUTs, but maybe this helps you:
www.motionvfx.com/mplugs-107.html
store.pixelfilmstudios.com/product/fcpx-lut-loader/

As i said, it's not a plug-in or a filter i need. I know it works but it's time consuming.
FCPX can apply LUT directly on the source, in the Log Processing Tab of the source Info Panel. But there's only 5 LUT, and i want to know if there's a way to add some.

I've Lut Utility, i can apply GH4 Cinelike LUT but not as efficient as applying Slog or Arri Log directly associate to the source files in the info tab.

I have been searching through the Files in the FCPX application bundle. The LUTs have to be somewhere.
But until now no success, will have another try.
But be aware that the LUTs in the log processing tab are destructive and in my opinion meant to be used for preview...

A little update:
I´m quite sure (and open to be proven wrong) that FCPXs internal LUTs are hardcoded into an executable (Flexo) within the application bundle. So essentially there is no easy way of messing with it..

Regarding the internal Log Processing one thing changed in 10.3
The newly available LUTs are now separate files within the directory structure of the Flexo Framework.
e.g.
CinemaGamut_CanonLog2-to-BT.709_WideDR_33_Ver1.0.3dlut
I managed to mess with it by replacing the file with another one.
Unfortunately I haven´t been able to create/convert my desired LUT to the needed file type.
All of the LUTs are 216kb but there is no readable text in them.
If anybody has an idea what it could be...

Yes, it's obvious that they are destructive, because they automatically sit on top of every CC-pipeline (if activated).
I recently read more articles on the downsides of using LUTs (in general, not referring to FCP X's built-in LUTs). I'll make a list:
1. A LUT is an idée fixe. It's an incomprehensible set of changes you just apply. And, no matter at which stage in the process you place it, it distorts everything, a visual prejudice.
2. A LUT has a limited number of sample points. Millions of values in between are interpolation. So if for instance you shot LOG to preserve highlights and shadows and to capture more colors, a "LOG_to_709"-LUT would make the image a very lossy copy. You had more original data to work with had you recorded in 709 from the start. The most quality of course is possible with CC from scratch.
3. A grade gives you access to every step ("node", effect-instance with all their parameters) and lets you change their order. A LUT doesn't.
