Strange Importing Behaviour

Hi Guys,

I'm using FCP 10.2 on a MacPro 2013.

I'm trying to import a file directly from my FS5 into FCPX and it will not import. I have tried opening up a new event and importing it into that and I see a thumbnail, but get the red "Missing File" pic in the viewer. I trashed the preferences, but this didn't work.

I have started a new library and imported the clip in there - it works and has audio, but I want to put the clip in the correct library with the rest of the project.

Do any of you guys have any solutions / suggested fixes to this?

Would transcoding the file be an option? And would that impact the quality of the clip?

When I mount the camera card on the desktop and click the folder, i get the usual AVCHD weirdness thing come up.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Thank you,
x

Are you watching the Background Task window to verify the copy from the card to the Library is 100% complete?

Replied by PhilCF on topic Strange Importing Behaviour
Hi There,

I ingest from multiple SD's and the new FCP gives you a pop up that says "import complete, do you want to eject" - So I may have removed the wrong card (one that was still ingesting). The problem I was facing is that once whatever happened happened, I could not import that file back into that Library at all.

Does anyone know of a way of reestablishing the integrity of a file to import, once FCPX has gotten angry with it? I tried trashing preferences, but it didn't work.

I found a work around to it. I imported the file into a new library, and then used "show package contents" to find the file in the finder. I dragged this onto my desktop, renamed it, and then imported it into the original library. It seems to have worked, but would appreciate anyones input into the above so I can make sure I'm not p*ssing FCPX off or setting myself up for a headache a little further down the line.

Thank you

If card ingest is interrupted, you may want to try using the Reimport From Camera Card function. It is in the File menu, in the Import sub-menu.

But what you're doing would work fine. Be sure you're copying these into the Library, not Leave In Place.
