Moving storylines and finalizing auditions

Just a couple of function questions:

1. Is there any way to move multiple storylines at once? I cannot click and drag more than one at a time or use the numeric keypad to move more than one at a time.

2. Any way to finalize more than one audition at a time?

1 - Yes, click on the storyline bar on the very top of a storyline. It should highlight the whole storyline, not the individual clips inside of it. Command-click that top bar of other storylines. They are all selected together. Drag by that top bar to move them all at once. Numeric and < > keys move just fine, also.
2 - no

I don't know the answer to your second question, but to move multiple secondary storylines, just Command-Click on the black bar at the top to select the storylines (rather than the clips inside) and you can then drag and nudge them at will.

Hope this helps,
-Mark

The command-click worked. Seems odd that you'd have to do that, but at least it's an option. IMO the default should be that if you normal click the black bar on multiple storylines, you should be able to move them, which is what I kept trying to do.

Thanks!

Multiple storylines, as in there are more than one created inside the Timeline.

That isn't an FCP thing, that is a macOS thing. Command click to select multiple items. To select multiple items in a row, slick the first, then shift click the last. It is simply how you select things. You can also click and lasso them all together.

If you just click each, and they all stay highlighted, then how would you select only one?

It's a Mac thing, not an FCPX thing.

1) Command clicking doesn't feel odd to me: it's the same shortcut that you use in the Finder to select multiple items, and also everywhere in FCP X (Browser, Timeline, etc.) In the timeline, selecting several storylines at once works exactly as selecting several clips at once. Pretty straight forward, in my opinion.

2) Yes, it is possible to Finalize several auditions at once... but this one is a bit trickier and definitely not intuitive. Here's how you do it:
  • Open one Audition in the timeline (Y)
  • While the Audition is open, select all the other auditions by Command clicking
  • In the menu bar, go to "Clip > Audition > Finalize Audition" or press ⌥⇧Y

In my opinion, we shouldn't have to Open an Audition to be able to do this. Please, send an Enhancement request to Apple if you agree: www.apple.com/feedback/finalcutpro.html
