Organize plugins-generators?

Hello again group, I have noticed I have a quite a lot of plugins but I am also noticing some are showing in locations such as title when the plugin works on color etc. I also recently updated fxfactory and I own ripple callouts and now the main folder ripple callouts is missing and each sub category is listed but none if you search callouts.

Wondering if there is a way to organize or custom organize your plugins in fcpx 10.2.

Your help and knowledge is appreciated. :)

quit FCPX
goto ~/Movies/Motion Templates/Generators

create a New Folder, give it a handy name (best-of, 3rd party, karsten's stuff ;) ) drag any generator into it ....

However if you reorganize them, do realize that any projects that have used them previously won't be able to find them in the future. Links to The Effects will be broken and you can't relink a missing effect. All you can do is put the effect back where it goes. Sadly FCP X doesn't tell you where it goes or where it's looking for it.

Actually, when relinking files in FCPX, FCPX will inform you of which effect is missing if that is the cause. It won't point to a location of the effect, but if it was originally in the Titles category and was subsequently moved to the Effects category, simply locating it and reapplying it to the unlinked clip will satisfy FCPX's relinking.

That would be astronomical news that deserves the front page if it works. I'll give it a try with fingers crossed. Still, with a project with potentially 20-30 or perhaps 100s if you're including titles and lower 3rds etc it sure would be a hassle to manually relink every single one.

Ok so I did a test and couldn't get this suggestion to work unfortunately. But perhaps I'm holding it wrong. Here's what I did. I applied one of my strobe effects to (from BretFX.com shameless plug) to a clip. Then quit FCP. Then moved that effect to a different category folder within effects. Relaunch FCP X and of course have the red missing effect screen. In the inspector it only tells the effect but of course has not adjustment sliders, etc. So now from what I gather from your suggestion I should go to the effects panel where I've moved it to, and reapply it to the clip. This does exactly what I expect and simply adds a second strobe effect to the clip at default settings. The clip still has the original effect applied and is still giving the red screen. What am I missing?

Not sure you're missing anything, but also not sure why this doesn't get rid of the missing media icon for you. I wouldn't expect effects adjustments to be retained but the clip should now reappear. Here is what I have found: on a particular project about 5 or 6 clips showed to be offline and when attempting relink FCPX showed the missing effect. The effect had been moved by me into a new category still within the effects folder (just a subfolder I renamed to something more specific for organizing). I located that effect and reapplied it to the clip in the timeline and FCPX then showed the clip to be online and relinked. So, maybe some differences in what I did could be: 1. The effect was still within the effects category but in a subfolder rather than a completely new category; 2. This occured on either FCPX 10.2.1 or 10.2.2 but not the latest version; 3. The particular effect did have adjustment parameters but were used at the default settings (i.e no adjustments made by me when used on the clip). 4. There were no other modifications made to the original clip regarding it's original location. This worked for me in this situation and yes, I did need to reapply that effect to each of the 5 or 6 clips.
