FCP X Audio Edit for TV commercial op 59 compliant was created by Skybow
Hi
Wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction on how to edit in FCP X the audio to be op 59 for a TV commercial. Are there any good tutorials around or do you have to purchase a plug in?
Or do you have good instructions?
Cheers

The RX Loudness control plugin from Izotope has presets for OP 59 standards. You can also find the OP 59 spec sheet online with a quick google search.

RX Loudness is a great tool.
Typically it's about creating audio that does not exceed a certain peak level -2dBFS, I think, for OP59. It also dictates an average loudness that the audio needs to adhere to, momentarily or over a longer period of time.
If you know what you are doing with audio you only really need a loudness meter like Insight or WLM and a few dynamic plugins like limiters and compressors. Typically you would limit your peaks a little so you can bring the overall loudness up a little and compress to manage the overall energy of the audio allowing you to meet the loudness requirement.
It's a little more tricky than it sounds and both compressors and limiters have a bit of s symbiotic relationship. But then there are tools like RX Loudness Control that does effectively the same job in a different way.

iZotope's RX Loudness Control is a Pro Tools only offline Loudness Normalizer with analytics. There is also a Loudness processing module in the Advanced version of their RX5 Audio Editor. That will set you back about $1200.
OP 59 requires -24.0 LUFS (LKFS) Integrated/Program Loudness with a Maximum True Peak not exceeding -2.0 dBTP. You can mix to these targets in RT using a compliant Loudness Meter. Or, execute off-line Loudness Normalization to your mixdown. There are best practices to consider. One of which is proper Headroom management.
I can elaborate further. Feel free to ping me directly.

Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't realize that FCPX was not a compatible host when I posted the suggestion.
