Add Keywords on Import

Is there an easy way to add keywords when you ingest footage?

When I import, there's a section of the Import screen that's dedicated to Keywords, but it's always greyed out. I can't find a way of adding Keywords to specific footage so that these keywords then get added into the event.

I'm on the latest FCP 10.2.3 on a 2013 Mac Pro.

Thanks in advance.

Phil

Are you importing from a camera? There only way to set keywords is to import into a keyword collection. If you're importing from a hard drive you can use fFinder folders or tags or drag and drop of collections.

When I click into the Keyword, then click file, import. The files appear in the event. But not in the keyword, and not keyworded. What am I doing wrong?

Guessing you're importing from a camera. You can only import directly into a new keyword. Make a new keyword and you'll see the import button.

Sorry... So I take the cards out of the camera and put them into a card reader where I then do the ingesting.

So your advice worked perfectly. Make a new keyword, then click import.

Is there a better way? You mentioned Finder tags?? Do you have any info on that?

Finder tags and Finder folders don't work for media imported from a camera or camera structure.
