Optical Flow FCPX vs Premiere? was created by Redifer
Both FCPX and Premiere have Optical Flow. Are there any known differences or are they litterally using the same code in both NLEs? The only difference that I can notice straight off the bat is that FCPX is much faster at doing it.

Hey Joe,
There are many different implementations of optical flow motion estimation. The Optical Flow algorithm used by FCP X comes from Shake. I doubt that the same technology is used in Premiere.

What's interesting is that Adobe calls it "Optical Flow" which to me sounds like a trademarked name.

I have also noticed that FCPX is a little faster to analyze. Not my a great enough margin to make much of a difference.
From my experience, they both are pretty close to the same as far as results.
The same kinds of movement will mess them both up in similar situations. i.e objects moving behind other objects, large objects moving off frame, and repetitive fine detailed objects- like a patch of grass or a tree with many leaves.
