Another MultiCam Question

Hi Everyone,

Hoping someone can point me in the right direction - cause right now I'm stuck.

I filmed at my work, a machine in operation. I had 4 GoPro's mounted around the machine - which were borrowed.

Unfortunately, I didn't sync or match them - other than using a Wifi remote to start them recording.

Here is where I'm stuck - I want to create a Multicam clip - however, I cannot figure out how to display all 4 streams at the same time - other than in the angle viewer. Basically what I want to do is create an output that looks like a security monitor. So all 4 cameras, being shown at the same time. I can transform each, and offset there location - but cannot get all 4 to display at the same moment.

I have done a bunch of google searching, and no luck - lots of syncing advice etc., but nothing for what I need.

I'm in a time crunch, and would truly appreciate someone suggesting how this can be done - or where I can go to learn how to do this.

Sorry for this to be my first post, but I'm at wits end...

Thanks in advance,
Paul

That's easy to accomplish:
stack the MC 4x over each other …
use Transform to resize/locate each clip
then, select in each [strike]track[/strike]... lane a diff. view angle.

And Welcome Paul, to fcp.co :)

Thank You

I will do some searching on making each a unique angle.

When I tried to stack them on top of each other, the first few splits in the recording worked well - where it went south, is when the batteries started to die, and I had to swap. Getting the camera recording again - I want to have black (blank frame) between real clips - to keep the video as linear as I can (between the 4 clips.)

I will play around - but thanks again for the welcome and for a suggestion.

Hi Paul
While Karsten's suggestion will work, I might not do it that way.
Creating duplicates of a MC with at least 4 angles, adding effects, using GoPro's codec will get very taxing on some Mac systems. That's at least 16 streams, plus effects, audio, and that is a lot of processing power.
If you see lots of spinning beach balls I would forgo the Multiple MC clips and I would simply stack the original clips up and sync manually, then use a 4up drop zone effect or manually resize and mask the clips.

However, if you want to do what Karsten is suggesting and your system can handle the work load, here is a very good video on how to do this exact thing…

Thanks for the Video links...

Ultimately, what I ended up doing - was a mix of all suggestions. My video's were buggered up, and not time synced - also, cause it was in a noisy factory - audio sync laughed at me.

So what I did, was layered all videos from all 4 cameras on top of each other - but grouped together. So all front view for example, I created a timeline. Same for side/front/back etc. Then to align each view with regards to time - I added place holders' with just blank black screen. This allowed me to time sync all 4 views... without over taxing my computer.

Worked out well and delivered the finished product this weekend.

Thank you once again to both of you for the help. Looking forward to learning a lot on this site, and from folks like you two!
