Hi All,

I have a question and I was hoping someone on this forum might be able to offer some advice.

We have recently added a 1DX mk2 to our camera setup to mix in with some 5D mk3's and C100's. We use all of them during the shoot (Mostly events/weddings) and I was wondering if anyone has any ideas what the best timeline settings would be? We will now be shooting in 4k 50p/25p and 1080p at 25p/50p/100p. In the past I have shot everything at 25p and imported into a 1080p 25p timeline. Now, however, I was wondering whether I should change the timeline setting to either 1080p 50p or keep it as is? There is also the possibility of a 4k timeline.

If anyone out there has any advice they could offer regarding what they think would offer up the best results it would be much appreciated!

Thanks all.

Having the ability to shoot in 4K is great, not so much for editing in 4K, but for the general greater image quality and the creative possibilities it gives for reframing in post.

I would keep delivering in 1080p, at 25fps. Shooting at higher frame rates and delivering at 25fps can be great in situations where you might want to use slow motion.

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated. I know with fcpx you can utilise the 'automatic speed' option when the footage is on the timeline which should help with the slo mo. (100fps will be pretty crazy!).

Anyway, thanks again and best of luck.

Just to add my 2¢:
I'm with Luís - to be specific: set the timeline to your preferred delivery format.

25p has, imho, esp for wedding movies the advantage of 'natural blur', slow shutter speeds allow a more 'dreamy', flowing, smooth look, and allow easier shallow DoF, another standard with wedding movies....

5.000fps is crazy. :silly:
Recorded last year my son splash diving , at 100fps, and in FPCX slowed down to 5%/Optical flow ... ok, some wobble, but .. nice ;)

And, Welcome Chris, to fcp.co :)
