Dual monitors was created by Nemo
I am running FCPX on an iMac 27" and would like to add an additional monitor that would be dedicated strictly to the thumbnail images of my footage.

Presently I can attach the second monitor to the iMac but it displays a mirror image of the iMac screen. Will I need a graphics card in order to see my footage images on the second monitor?

As always thanks for your response.

This is a great forum by the way/

Switch off mirroring in display system preferences.

Thanks for your response Tom.

I did as you suggested, however, the second display went to a blank screen. Actually I would prefer that the second monitor display the playback of the edited video from the timeline. My iMac screen does not provide as good a viewing as does my Sony monitor.

On my old FCP 7 system I had a Black Magic graphics card and from this card I ran an HDMI cable directly to the monitor. Will I need some sort of an external graphics card? Or maybe one doesn't exist. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Again thanks for you response.

With the screen blank you then use the menus in FCP to set what you want to appear on the second screen.

The 'view second monitor' is grayed out and I cannot access it. I can see a mirror image of my iMac but cannot get it to show the viewer or browser.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Why are you seeing a mirror of your iMac if you switched off mirroring in system preferences?

I solved the problem. I had failed to turn off 'mirroring'.

Thanks again Tom.
