Renaming files for Sound Mixer and relinking

Hi peeps,

Coming to the end of a short film cut in FCPX and I need some advice on workflow with Logic X. I'm handing off an edit to the sound mixer (who's working in Logic) and I'd like to rename the unhelpful Zoom files (ZOOM0001_MN, etc) so she can be more organised and quicker (for instance 'room tone hall' or 'scene 4 shot 2 audio'). We didn't use a clapper or audio description on the day (I know, I know - my bad) so I'm trying to see if there's alternatives. The problem is that the rough cut has been done in FCPX linking to the original file names. What's the best way of not creating a linking nightmare for myself down the line? Of course, she'd be exporting a full audio mix but I'd like to have the option of being able to have a connection between the two (original file name and new file name). To add complication as it was shot on a zoom on multiple days there are duplications of names (ie I have a ZOOM0001_MN in the BARN SAT folder and also a ZOOM0001_MN in the BARN SUN folder). This isn't causing problems at the mo but will if manually relinking has to happen later with name changes.

Is there something like a bin structure in Logic where the clips can be renamed within the software without affecting the finder level file names? That would be the easiest. The only other thought I have is dropping the unchanged finder name clips each into a folder of their own named with a descriptor ('room tone hall' etc).

Any thoughts, suggestions or gotchas welcome.

This is a new type of project for me with a team as I've been a solo operator professionally for years so I'm still honing processes.

On the plus side the films looking great!
