Hi i'm trying to live capture from my camera into FCP, on apples page it says you can do this with firewire ( support.apple.com/kb/PH12752?locale=en_US ). My camera (panasonic fz300) has a USB port and a HDMI port, and i've searched for adapters to convert these ports into firewire but it doesnt seem lik˜e they exist. Can anybody offer advice? Do i need a camera with a firewire port on it to do this?

Also, i've tried to connect iphone cameras to import directly into FCP while recording (with lightning cable), but this doesnt work either. Anybody know if it is possible to do this with iphone cameras?

Thanks,
Dans

Aside from Softron record and edit systems, there is no way you can record live in FCP aside from the FeceTime camera or an iSight camera. You can't record live from DV or an iPhone.

Thanks for your reply Tom. One thing that still confuses me is, Apple's site says iphone cameras are isight cameras ( www.apple.com/iphone-6s/cameras/ ), but im assuming that it when apple says you can import with isight camera they are only referring to the external webcams with low resolution. either way ill just switch sd cards often for now. Cheers!

iSight is mentioned once on that page in the context of the name of the camera and its stills capabilities. Odd choice of terms to use here.
