Looking to animatePNG via slide transition

Hi Everyone,

I am new here.

I am working on a big project. I have ran into problems and hope to get some help.

I am creating a video where I have a solid color background, and I have that as a layer. I I am adding layers on the same timeline, mainly PNGs and I want to animate them. I have tried to use the slide, because I want them to come from right to left or left to right. I ran into problems where the screen turned black while the transition is happening because I don't have anything else to connect it to.

I am currently working on doing frames and animating via transform. The problem is I have like 50 slides with multiple elements to animate. The slide transition seems to be most convenient for the purpose, it just blacks out the screen and i have another color int he background.

Is there a way where i can get around that, or does anyone know of a transition? I have tried multiple transitions, some of them turned black and some of them were independent. I looked the issue up for quite some-time. I also have tried to play around in composer, and I was not sure what I was exactly doing. Any help would be appreciated.

I'll skip the obligatory "It can be done really easily in Motion" line because you would obviously like to get this done in FCPX. You could try the Push transition (located under Movements in the transitions tab) to transition your PNG files. Just change it's direction to left to right and your ready to go. The background color layer should be unaffected. Make sure your PNGs are in their own storyline so you can transition between them.

& to borrow a line from our esteemed moderator... welcome to the forum. :)

Hi Jarrod,

Thank you so much for replying.

I tried that, I have multiple layers, and when transition overlap, they create a funny animation that affects different layers. like duplicating them.

I got it. Didn't that any transition that goes up affects everything behind it. Had to do compound clips after I added the transition and merged stills from the mail track right before another transition. :)

FCPX is definitely super-weird and very flawed in the way it handles its transitions. Work-arounds are a must.

I don't see that as super-weird. It was exactly the way I would have suggested doing it. Compound Clips are your friend. ;-)
