Confusion with MXF media handling in FCPX

Confusion with MXF media handling in FCPX was created by AppleGuru
MXF is causing some confusion on my side of the edit staten.
I received a drive with mixture of DSLR and MXF footage from a Sony camera.
The media originally was used in a Adobe Premiere project. When importing or "adding" (which no ingesting) to the project the files just show up.
So in FCPX when importing into the Library with the leave in place... some of the MXF footage just shows up like in Premiere, the other half of the MXF media want to be transfer into the Library and you can see the Camera Icon on the each cup during this process. So for some reason FCPX recognise some one half as "media" on the drive and the other half as it was still on the camera card.
Why is this? Also this is not a good thing since we only archive the original media from camera to LTO. FCPX doesn't reconnect the MXF media that it thinks it is still on camera.
Thanks for any input.

I guess this is a normal function? But why?

Perhaps related to the format the media is in (you don't mention). If FCPX sees it as a camera card it must be copied otherwise it can be left in place. That's not specific to MXF which is why I'm not entirely sure of your question.
Issue is whether FCPX sees them as camera cards or not. That's not codec related. You don't give any indication one way or another so it's hard to answer.

Yes, it sounds very much like the original camera cards were dealt with 2 different ways when first brought over to media drives.
It looks like half the cards were just copied in their entirety to the media drive.
For the other half, the MXF files from the camera card's media folder were isolated and copied over to the working media drive.
In the latter case, FCPX will gladly point to the media.
In the former case, FCPX will not allow this because it recognizes it as original camera media.
To resolve this, you could move the MXF files out of the camera card structure on your media drive, and then attempt to import it into FCPX again as external media.
Cheers, and good luck.
