Add a Clip to the Beginning of a Secondary Storyline-without rippling?

I'm editing a documentary - interviews and b-roll. I have a secondary storyline set up with all my clips arranged as I want them. Is there a way to add clips to the front of the secondary storyline without all the other clips rippling down the timeline?
What I have been doing is adding the clip to the front of the secondary storyline, grabbing the secondary storyline and dragging it to the left so that the previously placed clips are back where they were. It seems like there should be an easier way.

I was going to recommend using the insert command (w) but that places the clip in the primary storyline. I'm probably doing something wrong though. Someone smart will answer this one.

Hi Cleigh,
Put your playhead at the front of your secondary storyline, where you want to add your clip.
Press SHIFT+Q to add your clip before the secondary.
Press G and drag the clip towards the secondary to add it.
