OK Here's the issue...I do a lot of talking head education films. I have one instructor who has a very aggressive inhalation between sentences that's really disconcerting to the viewer. I take these inhalations out buy simply ranging over the sound in the audio track and then dropping the volume to zero. I can do this up to a hundred times in a given film.
Obviously I have to draw/select the range with the mouse...can't do much about that. But...is there a keyboard command or some other trick to drop the volume within the selected range to zero?
Dragging the range with the trackpad then using the trackpad again to drop the volume to zero is really tedious. Any kind of short cut to drop that volume would really speed up this boring task. Thanks for any suggestions.

Modify>Adjust Volume>Silence. There is no shortcut for it, but you can assign one in the command editor.

Tom...
Thanks...Wasn't sure how to do this but the guys at ripple training had a tutorial that showed me how to do exactly what you suggest and create a command.

Go to the Final Cut Pro>Commands>Customize.
Upper right search for Silence.
Click Control button next to the the search box. Control-delete is unused. Drag the Silence command onto the delete key.
Save the custom keyboard layout.
