Automatically re-transcode proxy after modifying Red Raw Settings

I gues my subject pretty much covers it, but as far as I can tell, this is the workflow when dealing with proxy files and Red Raw settings in fcpx:
1. Import Red footage into FCPX (with 'transcode optimized and proxy media' checked)
2. Edit.
3. Time to tweak Raw settings, so we select the clip and click "Modify Red Raw Settings"
4. Whether we change anything or not, our proxy is now gone.
5. Select the clip in the browser, and transcode to proxy again.

Question 1: First, it seems can only transcode clips from the browser, you cannot select the clip in the timeline and Transcode to proxy...the option is not available. Or am I missing something?

Question 2: Is there any way to tell FCPX to AUTOMATICALLY re-transcode proxy files whenever the proxy gets deleted by opening Red Raw settings?

Thanks

Set the browser to show only used media in a project. Transcode everything in the browser.

Hi Carl, welcome to the forums.

1. You only need to create Proxies when your system is not capable of playing REDRaw files natively.

Any recent Mac with some fast external storage will handle native RedRAW clips without the need for transcoding. Actually, FCP X is the only NLE that can debayer RedRaw in realtime without dropping image quality. The only thing you need to do to achieve this, is to set the Viewer to "Better Performance". 4KRaw should play without any issues on any decent system with a fast drive, for 5K and 6K you will need a recent iMac or Mac Pro.

2. If your system cannot handle REDRaw natively, there is no reason why you would need to create Optimized files AND Proxies.

Just create Proxies and edit in Proxy mode, then switch back to Original media for exporting. Not creating Optimized files will save you LOTS of drive space.

3. The RED Raw settings can only be applied to the original RAW clips, which is quite logical. So you cannot tweak the RAW settings while you are in Proxy mode, you have to switch to Original mode first.

Do all your tweaking while staying in Original mode. If you don't need to do any further editing afterwards, you don't even need to create Proxies again. If you do need to recreate Proxies, you can do them all at once: switch to Proxy mode, select all clips in the browser that show a red error wanting and group-transcode them. Or use Tom's solution to only reveal the clips you have used on the timeline
