I have been hearing allot about FCPX and its Licensing... I wasn't able to find anything that is hard on paper.

But so far, what I have heard if you buy FCPX form the App Store you are able to install it up 5 workstations.
Is this correct? The question has been brought up since a edit hause I dip in once a awhile are considering adding FCPX to there tools set.
At the moment they are using the Adobe CC.

Yes ... According to the App Store EULA (End User License Agreement) you are allowed to install any app purchased in the store on up to 5 computers you own for an individual Apple ID.

There is no five station limitation. That's an iTunes authorization thing. You can install it on as many machines as you own and control.

You can get multi-seat licenses at a discount. Can't remember what the minimum number is.

Hope Ronny or someone who has large facility experience will know better how they handle this. Theoretically if a company uses a company Apple ID, it can install it on all the machines it owns and controls. You don't want to use personal Apple IDs. I've seen companies get trapped by that. Can't update because the Apple ID holder has left.

On the other hand you can't purchase multiple copies on a single Apple ID, the App Store just won't let you, unless you get a multi seat license. The company I think would need to use multiple Apple IDs, like company1@company.com and password, company2, company3, etc to purchase multiple copies.

We bought 80 lincenses at a school I used to work which gave us a 50% discount. 5 for the teachers and 75 for the students (FCPX and Motion). The teachers activated their license on their personal Apple ID and we activated 1 license on the schools Apple ID and distributed that copy to all student (the school owns the machines their using).

We had to distribute updates on USB sticks or the studens went to the reception to get an updates pushed through the network from the schools server. If the did this, they had to delete FCPX and Motion first. The school uses DeployStudio for this (and more).

Having gone through this with two universities, and three corporations, you can put it on as many Mac's that you, as an individual, have control of. If you are a school or commercial operation, it is different. You have to go through the bulk licensing program for education institution or businesses. Only individuals can put it on as many Mac's as they own.
Here's the FCPX volume license program.

So it sounds like they can install it on as many Macs they want as long the same user, only that user uses at a time?
Supposely (not sure) have a better volume Licensing Program with CC.

No, CC's volume licensing is not nearly as quick and easy, and more expensive. Been there, done that, won't ever touch it again.

BTW, that link I supplied is not just for FCPX. You can search (top of screen) for any app in the App store (books and stuff, also) that is eligible for volume discounts. Example, CoreMelt offers volume discounts via the App/iTunes store.
