I've never had this issue before but all Solids generators are blank (as in "invisible"). Whether I place a solid generator in the main storyline or as a connected clip, it remains blank and I can only see the layer underneath. This happens for any solid, custom, grey scale, white, etc. Video parameters are all normal, blend mode is normal, opacity is at 100%, no crop... No idea what's going on. I deleted the FCPX preferences and restarted and I'm still getting this problem. All other generators work fine.

Any ideas?

Try trashing prefs first. If not reinstall the application.

Hi,

You could use 'Gradient' in 'Textures' and set both gradient colours to the same so as to create a colour solid.

Steve, that's a good temporary solution but the problem is that I have a big project with many solids and I want to avoid having to replace all of them.

I created new projects and solids are blank. I went back to old projects and solids are blank. I've never seen this before.

Yeah, I understand. However I've never seen this before either, so all I can offer is work-arounds.
Talking of which, how about this? Right click, two finger tap or whatever on the 'Custom Solid' icon and go 'Open a copy in Motion' and have a play around in there. Then save and see what happens when you try and work with the copy. I have no idea if it will do anything but it's something i would try.

...If nothing else it might help establish the extent of the issue. I presume you've tried switching it off and on again? Sometimes I get issues with a few plug-ins that are cured by a restart. For me Phyx Fast Defocus sometimes plays up if graphics are layered on top. A quick restart of the machine usually sorts it out. Looks like you've tried all of the things that logically could be the culprit. Opacity, Transform, Crop etc.
Might be time for a fresh install.

I tried opening a solid in motion and I'm getting this message.

"The following items used to create this project are missing:

Solid Color : Missing Generator"

I'll see if re-installing Motion does the trick.

The message you get in Motion suggests that you still have a corrupt FCP X application.
You said you did reinstall but did not say how.
You should use FCS Remover to completely wipe out any traces of the application and then download from the Purchases section of the App Store.

I have to agree that a clean install after FCS remover is probably the way forward but just out of interest, when you created the copy and opened it in Motion did you look at what was generated in the Movies>Motion>Generators folder. It should have created a copy.motn file along with two png files. One is a 192X108 thumbnail and the other is the 640X360 generator copy. I'm guessing in your case you weren't able to generate the png's.

I've seen this on a student's Mac recently. That's a Motion 5 error message. What we did was use FCS Remover to wipe out FCPX and Motion, both. We also found not all Additional Content had been downloaded, so we ran that again after the reinstall. Worked fine after that.

OK so I did another computer restart and it fixed the problem.

And to answer your question, I just did a re-install from the App store but did not uninstall before. That might be why it didn't fix it.

The problem couldn't have been that some content did not fully download because I used FCPX with no issues since the last update and thenI randomly got this problem 2 days ago. This issue came out of nowhere.
