Importing part of a clip -- Help! was created by JimmyHayes
Hello everyone,
I'd like to import part of a clip in FCPX. So far, my preliminary research is telling me this is impossible, but I'd like to verify with the Pros on this site.
Here is my situation: I have a 100gig file resting outside of my FCPX library on a USB3 pocket drive that I've incorporated into my projet and logged using keywords. All of my other media is resting in my library on my FCPX hard drive. I'd like to copy only the keyword'ed media into my library.
Doable?
Thanks.
Jimmy.

I guess the easiest way is:
open your 100Gig file (how many hours is that?? ) in Quicktime and use its trim-tools to chop off unwanted parts.
Another option is to use VCC , a free tool which 'converts' files into something, FCPX notices as 'camera' , so you can use the selection tools in FCPX ..

You'll have to reimport and re-edit if you alter the original file into pieces, or one shorter piece. But what Karsten said is how you'd do that. Or just export Master Files of the ranges you've already applied ratings to. You'd still have to reimport and re-edit with those. No way to trim off unneeded media inside FCPX... yet... (sigh)
