FOOTAGE LOOKS OUT OF FOCUS

HI GUYS,

Shooting with my new sony FS5 which I'm enjoying using. Footage looks sharp when I upload to FCPX but when It's uploaded to my editors FCPX (same version) with looks soft. Or rather it looks sharp until you press play, then the footage plays/looks soft.

Any ideas why this is happening, she is just out of college so I'm worried she is missing something (though she knows more than me :-) )

Any help is very gratefully received

Thanks

Neil

She likely has the Viewer set to "Better Performance" rather than "Better Quality". This will playback more smoothly but will look softer until the video is paused.

After you set to better quality zoom the viewer window to 100% and this too will help see things better. Sometimes when viewer window is set to Fit to Window the magnification is sometimes an odd number like 17.4% as an example and some displays don't like that.

or maybe you should render (all or just the selected range)

Thanks Guys,

Switching on 'Better Quality' has sorted it but I'll also check out the other tips.

It's so nice when it's a simple solution to the problem :cheer:

Big thanks

Neil :-)
