FCPX Tutorials: Recommendations? was created by JimmyHayes
Hi everyone,
I am embarking on my first professional edit with FCPX and I am looking for a high-quality & general tutorial on the software, that is a better read than the user manual and will include video demonstrations. Pardon me in advance if such a list of recommendation already exists on this site.
I have used FCPX on personal edits before and possess a basic understanding of the software. I've been editing for around 15 years and know FCP7 as well as other major platforms in and out.
Thanks in advance,
Jimmy

My personal favorite:
rippletraining.com
offers all sorts of tuts, the huge 'everything and from the ground' up to highly specialized ones ...
Others recommend izzy and lynda.com ...maybe too amateurish for your needs (??)
And, Welcome, Jimmy to fcp.co

HI Jimmy
Welcome to the forums.
I second what Karsten said. Ripple Training offers some great tutorials, some free on web and paid from their site. There are some other good free tutorials as well, Izzyvideo, Fox Mahoney, Denver Riddle, Larry Jordan, Dan Allen, to name just a few.
I just wanted to chime in and say the best way to learn FCPX is to forget what you learned with Legacy FCP and other NLE's. FCPX is its own paradigm, and trying to correlate between the other NLEs only leads to problems. FCPX is a metadata driven program so figuring out libraries, keywords, tags becomes very important for speed and ease. Magnetic Timeline means no out of sync audio, and no "Tracks" per se.
Really, giving up legacy FCP frameworks is the key to FCPX.
Once you embrace the new methods, FCPX is faster, more powerful, simpler to use than other NLEs.
Best of Luck, Happy Editing
Hope this helps, Greg

... I'm the European morning shift + timezones = "you're still awake??"
@Greg
excellent point! stumbled lately upon the phrase
"In FCPX, most edit is done before the edit" .... sounds silly but hits the point.
Although being an hobbyist with just tiny projects, one of my "AHA!" moments was this article
