FCPX making multiple copies of clips when trying to collaborate between two libraries was created by yecid.benavides
Hello,
Thanks for all the good information in these forums. They've been of great help in the past.
So, I'm having trouble with the following. I have an entire feature-length film edited in FCPX (10.2.1). Source material was mainly EPIC 5K and RED MX 4.5K. The original footage is all External Media in 8 different Hard Drives (2TB each). The library is in a 4TB drive that contains the proxies made from all 8 disks. It has become heavier (2.9TB) as it went along due to not only the proxies of all the footage, but the very very very heavy analysis files (optical flow) and the _AsyncCopying file that also is very heavy, and I have no clue how to dump all of that which is supposed to dump itself...anyway that's not my main concern right now.
What is happening is the following: I now need to send it to get Color Graded at the post house and they will work in Resolve. They will need a clean FCPXML and all the media. In order to get this rolling, I have copied my picture lock project into a new library in another 4TB disk (without copying proxies or optimized media) and then went on to consolidate that library so it can contain the original .r3d files. I couldn't fit it all into that disk so half of it is Managed inside the library in the one 4TB disk, and the other half is External Media from another 4TB disk that ONLY contains the shots that aren't already managed in the library.
For many reasons I don't think are relevant, I need to now bring in the Project AGAIN into this library because it has changed. However, bringing a project duplicates all the clips in the browser (which then I have to relink to the files in these two drives), and importing an XML of the new project just goes crazy. I get a weird timeline with black clips, the size is completely wrong (like 300x217 pixels or something like that) and the framerate is stuck at 60p and I can't change it.
How can I just bring the "New cut" for lack of a better phrase, into this library? It uses the exact same media, and it shouldn't be a problem, but I can't figure it out.
And another thing that happens...I know this is a separate question, but I hope it's ok to make it on the same post. On both machines, when I change the setting so Media is stored outside the library, whether it is on another folder on the same disk or on another disk entirely), it accepts it, but when I hit CONSOLIDATE, the program crashes immediately. Anyone knows what this is about?
In case it helps.

We are working on 2 different MacPro's late 2013. One is a QuadCore and the other one is a Six-Core.

Thank you beforehand. I'll be standing by in case I needed to give some more info.

Hi Everyone,
I don't mean to bother, just wondering why I got no reply to my question. Is something wrong with the topic or is just no one has had time yet.
Thanks

Weekends are slow (Sundays usually dead), and here in the U.S. it is a holiday. I'm on the road and don't have access to FCPX at the moment. If no one answers when I'm back in my office tomorrow, I'll pop on and look this over. But I'm sure someone will post something soon. Just hang tight a bit.

I hope you will understand my telegraphic reply , I am not good in english.
Davinci Resolve is a very great software for relinking media, as long as it is first imported in the « Media Pool » before importing the fcpxml. ( it is also possible to force relink media but it is tedious …)
This is easy if all media has unique Timecode or Different « reel number » for some same timecode.
If previous is true, you only need to deliver your pertinent original camera media and a FINAL fcpxml , All depending of the version of DVResolve, many clip modifications and basic color grading are supported Retiming not all types.
SO just your original media and an fcpxml file can do it, but note that new version of DVR can also read media inside a Library
Post house tend to use UNIX version of DVR and tend not to update quickly to avoid down time.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
