Hello,
New to the forum here. I am running FCPX 10.2.3 on a Mac Pro (Late 2013) OSX 10.11.5 (El Capitan) 3.5 Ghz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5 | 16 GB 1866 Mhz DDR3 ECC | AMD FirePro D500 3072 MB
I come from using Logic Pro X and one of my favorite key commands is to "Play from beginning of region" (which in Final Cut would be the equivalent of "Clip"). The key command for this in Logic would be SHIFT-SPACEBAR
I want to replace the current key command SHIFT-SPACEBAR from "Play Reverse" to accommodate "Play from beginning of clip".
Before reassigning SHIFT-SPACEBAR, the command to "Play Reverse" works fine. When I reassign the key command, however, my Mac makes the honking sound and nothing happens.
I have also tried assigning SHIFT-COMMAND-SPACEBAR too. This is a previously unassigned key command and still when I assign it, my Mac makes the honking sound!
Any suggestions on why this might be happening?

no help, just to confirm after a short test:
the command is listed, but doesn't work with any key combination. Tried both in English/German UI - no joy.
It looks like, that command isn't implemented yet in FCPX
make a wish:
www.apple.com/feedback/finalcutpro.html
And Welcome, Nick, to fcp.co

It works on browser clips, not clips in the timeline.

Alternatively you can use the 'play selection' command which plays a region from start and stops at the end of the region
On the iPad right now so can't check what the exact default shortcut for it is (I think shift-/).
You can remap it to whatever suits.

Hey guys! Sorry for the late response and thank you for the replies!
The "Play from selection" command is ok I guess but i really wish it could just continue playing throughout the project.
I wonder if the Final Cut and Logic guys are on opposite ends of the world and have no communication between?
There are a lot of final cut features I would love to see in Logic (true slip mode editing for audio regions for instance) and vice versa (play from beginning of clip in storyline).

I suspect it has more to do with the way video editors work. Personally I've never felt the need to play from the beginning of a clip in timeline, in the browser yes, in the timeline no. In the timeline I almost always want to play from before an edit rather than from an edit point. I know very little about Logic, but find it frustrating in many ways that it doesn't do things as an NLE does. For instance video editors often like to play things backwards, hence to need to rock and roll the playhead, which I guess isn't done much in audio as I can't find a simple way to do that in Logic.

Logic and FCP have always been considered as two completely different applications, each for a very specific market (video editing and music production), so it's quite logical there will be differences between the two.
This does not mean there is no communication between the FCP X and Logic X dev teams. In fact we are starting to see increased integration between the apps. But they will always remain different applications for different markets. Just like Avid Media Composer and ProTools (both from Avid) are completely different applications that have little in common because they serve different markets.
This said: if you are working on a clip, you want to play that clip from the start and you want the playhead to continue after the clip, just press Upper Arrow and Space Bar.
