ProRes422 or ProRes 422 HQ was created by Myriemme Dechemin
Hello, could you have help me to resolve the problem of conversion. I have two type of video-files: AVCHD (camera Sony, H.264, 1920x1080, 50p) and MOV (camera Canon 5D Mark II, H.264, 1920х1080, 25p). I converte all files through FCPX to ProRes 1920x1080 with frame rate 24p. What codec do you use for converter H.264 to ProRes - 422 or 422 HQ? H264 gives better results than ProRes 422 or than ProRes 422 HQ? What is better?

technically proRes422HQ ... but if you notice any differences in real life...? I doubt so ...
many say, AVCHD doesn't need beyond proRes422LT.......
... but why 'optimizing'/transcoding anyhow?
Any actual Mac handles AVCHD easy ...
And Welcome, Myriemme, to fcp.co

I agree that it would usually be best to NOT transcode your media when starting from wither of those formats.
ProRes 422 will yield much larger file sizes than the originals- taking up much more hard drive space.
If your using a halfway decent Mac, then the original files should be handled without much in the way of performance problems.
ProRes 422 HQ is even more data rich.
The reason to use either of these formats would be if you're going to be performing extensive compositing (layering) of many different shots. One on top of the others, for visual effects. In this case, your machine will begin to bog down very rapidly, and you'll benefit from having prores source files.
Good luck

ProRes HQ is better, but only if you re render several times the media : you will loose more with ProRes, and less with ProRes HQ.
HQ is also better if your source media is in 10 bits
