Final Cut wont consolidate was created by roha1953
Hello,
I just bought a new external drive and final cut freezes when I want to consildate them into the new harddrive. The old hardrive is a 2TB one which is almost full does that make any difference? I have this 4TB one and it keeps crashing as soon as I want to consolidate it to this one.
Ill be very greatful for any help because I have a very important project due.
Kind regards,
Robin

Hi Robin, welcome to the forums.
1. Never work off a full drive. That's a recipe for disaster. Any drives you use should have at least 15% available of their total capacity.
2. Check the format of your new drive. If the drive is formatted as FAT, exFAT or any other Windows formatting scheme, you should erase the drive and format it to MaxOS Extended.

Nevermind!
I used the preference manager, and now I have to relink all my files manually instead (about a 1000 hehe).
There is no automatic function where you can relink all files, right?

Hey Robin,
You never, ever need to relink when you move a Library to a different drive. If you need to relink, this means you are not following the correct procedure for moving yuur library to your new drive. I am in the middle of a big FCP X install now, so I don't have time to write down all the details. But please check this: www.fcp.co/forum/4-final-cut-pro-x-fcpx/...to-a-different-drive
And google "move fcp x library to a different drive". You will find many good explanations on how to do this. One thing you NEVER should do is to drag the Library and the media from one drive onto another using Finder. That's a recipe for disaster.
