Hi all, have a problem that I'm currently trying to find the solution to and so far there is nothing on Google and not even Apple support in Ireland or the US have managed to resolve.
In FCP / File / Share ...when you select any option nothings happens ...its as simple as that (btw I am trying to share as Master file). The menu is not greyed out, its just doesn't respond.
So far Apple Support have gone through a number of settings, deleted preferences, we tried different projects, using a different user account, even deleted FCP and downloaded it again from the App store ...but the problem remains and Apple have gone very quiet.
Only a couple of days ago FCP was crashing every time it was opened, Apple support advised to update my Yosemite to 10.10.5 and the crashing problem stopped, however it has now been replaced by this issue.
Have 4 deadlines approaching over the next couple of days, the projects are ready to go but I can't create them so any guidance on this would be more than appreciated.
Thanks guys

The wonks will be checking in as the sun rises across the States and Europe. They will have far better advice for you but I'd make a few phone calls and check your credit card balance.
As expensive or inconvenient as this sounds, you might be able to get your work out if you just get a new Macintosh and put FCPX on it. Maybe you have a buddy who would lend you a machine. If your media is on an external drive, just move the drive and you should be able to get your projects out the door. If your media is managed in Libraries you will probably have to copy them to the new machine and that could take several hours.
Software failures that don't go away with reinstallation or any of the usual FCPX troubleshooting start to look like hardware or basic-level OS issues. These can take days to troubleshoot and days to fix unless you're willing and able to go down the "scorched-earth-wipe'n'rebuild" pathway, which can still take days.
Tom, Ben, or Karsten will hopefully have much better suggestions for you. I wish you good luck.

Hi Phil
Ouch! Big drag.
There are many possibilities for the cause. Sorry Apple wasn't able to help. Did they ask for you to send in the project files to see if they could reproduce it?
Since you have already done many of the things to troubleshoot, here are some additional suggestions.
As Bogieman suggested, if you can try to use a different computer, that would indeed eliminate a computer hardware issue.
Assuming you have plenty of drive space, when you export there needs to be available drive space and RAM in order to write the files. IMHO Apple doesn't provide enough feedback to how much space is needed.
It is possible that you have a corrupted clip, photo or plug-in in your project. You having had multiple crashes may be a pointer to this as well.
There are some diagnostic resources you can try.
A simple free resource is Etrecheck… etrecheck.com/#about
Download the app and run it. It will help to find certain issues including out of date plug-ins.
Etrecheck provides plain English translation to many files and logs on your Mac.
You can examine your log files. Check here first… User>Library>Logs>DiagnosticReports> and see if any files relate to FCPX. They will be Date and Time stamped.
OK you need to be a bit of Geek to read these, but the Report will point to the Application, the Crash issue and what specific actions caused it.
Finally there is the use of "Console" located in the Utilities folder. Use is a little to detailed for me to go into, but Linc Davis(?) over in Apple Support Communities has some good advice procedures on its usage.
And don't forget good ole' Activity Monitor (Utilities) may also show you the process that is not working. Launch that, I would go to the CPU tab, try to export the project, see what process is launched in AM and you can take samples as the process is happening. This may show what is hanging.
This can be very frustrating, especially when deadlines loom.
Best of Luck. If you see anything you don't understand post back and someone can try to help.
Hope this helps, Greg

Before you try a new computer, try a new library. It may be that there is something wrong with the library you are working on. New library, new project, add something, share - if that works, then it is not your FCP X, not your OS, and not your mac.

If you confirm that exporting from a new library works, try copying the project from your original library to an event in a new library, and export from there.

Thanks for all of your advice on here, hopefully it will all be beneficial for troubleshooting future problems, as far as this issue is concerned I have created a new library, imported fresh files and hey presto the share feature is working again.
As part of my troubleshooting I had actually tried to share from other librarys however none of them worked either ...so I'm guessing somewhere for some reason all my existing librarys have corrupted for some reason.
It would be useful to know why that happened, but in the meantime I'm more than relieved to see the share button working again and have 4 projects to fire out the door so thanks again everyone
Just goes to show how much we take such small things for granted ...losing the share button felt like the end of the world for 2 days
