Disappearing / changing generators and shape masks

I used what seemed at the time to be quite a simple generator with a shape mask in the middle to highlight words from a text and every so often when I close fcpx these effects won't appear when i next open it. When going into the effects it appears the shape mask has changed size, so I simply changed it back but now the generator isn't displaying at all. I tried incorporating them into a compound clip but the same has happened. doesn't happen every time I close the programme... so absolutely no idea what I'm doing wrong or why this is happening...

Any ideas to stop this happening? Failing that, an easy alternative effect (though I don't really want to spend time doing something new in place of them)

Delete all render fiels, delete preference files, as a place to start. Nothing should be changing when you quit and relaunch FCPX.

There are some problems with shape mask. After you set it up the way you want check the convert to points box.

okay I'll try both of those things and see if it makes a difference. They display with different dimensions when I export the video too if it suggests anything.

I usually only use generators as backgrounds for title screens etc and they work fine - are they just not very adaptable?

Converting to points worked thank you! For now to export anyway... if it happens again I'm just going to import my export of that segment and be done with it! Thanks!
