Using a title throughout a project - making available for easy access?

In FCP7 I could copy the title, and copy text, and paste both in a new position, and just change the text. FCPx I guess treats titles and text both as copying text, and once pasted, it seems to be gone. I have to scroll back to the previous title... and scroll forward.
Just was wondering if there's a way to store a title with transitions so I don't spend so much time scrolling back and forth.
Thans for any advise!

If you want to save a title and attached transitions, you can make a compound clip, then it will be in the event browser, and you can just use the keyboard shortcut to break it apart for editing once placed.
Hope this helps,

Have you tried?

You seem to be confusing us with your use of the terms text and title. You seem to have pasted a title, taken from your text, into a marker and that's not part of the discussion. Yet. Then you pasted your text, from the title, into the text item, which you might be calling a title, just like I've always done. So, hmm, I don't understand the problem.

This didn't show the whole process, and you are correct, I have markers, chapter markers at the start of each song/dance. Each time, I have scroll back and copy the title that includes dissolve transition and paste. I have to go to the text doc copy the text name of song/dance and paste into the chapter marker and the title with transitions I pasted. After doing this, if I scroll ahead to the next location where one is needed, it no longer pastes the title. I have to start over scrolling back etc...
I still use FCP7 for multicam projects, and doing the same thing there on a timeline seems to copy the title transitions, and the text so I can paste and use on each instance, just changing the data.

Here's how I would do this. When your rough edit is done, create your master version of the title, apply your transitions but make sure the text is something silly like "master title" so you always know it needs to be corrected. Copy this title with its transitions and paste it wherever it needs to be, as many times as you need. Then go back to you text document, copy the text you need, and paste into your title objects and markers. One at a time.
You can create a text object in FCPX and convert it to a compound clip. This puts it in your media browser as an object you edit into the timeline like any other video clip.
FCPX is a huge change from FCP7. Patience.

A clipboard management software that allows you to have more than one item copied may also help.

Copy title, paste, paste, paste, paste, paste. I'd also be zoomed out more to go faster. Time saved right there. Then...
Timeline Index, show only Titles, jump from one to the next dealing with copy/paste text. No need to scroll, click, there. That'd save more time.

Just to add to the discussion.
You can create custom Titles with any attributes including Text attributes, Font, Color, Glow, Drop Shadow in Motion 5 and save it for FCPX. Then you would only need to change the Text words.
You can also do most of this if a current Title meets yours needs by saving a preset for the Title.
After modifying a Title to your liking, In the Inspector pane in the Text tab, click on the pop up Title area where by default it says "Normal", now scroll up and you will see at top options to Save Format Attributes, Save Styles Attributes and Save All Format and Style Attributes. Select Save All Format and Style Attributes and then you can name it what ever you want.
It will then appear in alphabetical order in your presets. Hint: you can add an "A" or a Number at beginning of name to get it to top of order for easier finding in list.
From the FCPX User Manual pg 693 …
“Save Format Attributes: Saves basic font controls, including font, size, alignment, tracking, and line spacing.
Save Style Attributes: Saves effects such as text color, outline color, glow, drop shadow, and so on.
Save All Format + Style Attributes: Saves both format attributes and style attributes.
Now just add the Title to Project, select your preset, change the wording. Done.
As Ben said you can use the Timeline index to navigate, or use Marker navigation. As Mark said with Clipboard managers (I use Clip Menus) you can copy and store multiple items (100 items in CM history by default) and then paste each different text per title. I do this for actor names all the time.
Why Apple doesn't allow you to store multiple items in Clipboard is so :silly:
Hope this helps and welcome to the forums
