Apple forum has someone who set Still Duration to 3 seconds, but photos still drop into a Project Timeline with a 10 second duration. I haven't needed to specify still duration in a long time, so it tested. Yep, current version of FCPX seems to ignore the Still Duration setting in Preferences, and stick with 10 second durations in Timelines, no matter what. Am I missing something? Anyone else seeing this bug?

If you click on a still image filmstrip in the browser, it makes the preference selection. If you select the names or a group of clips in filmstrip view it selects the whole 10 seconds. The edit selection preference is only for clicking on the image to make a selection. Not ideal but it's always been that way as far as I remember.

Yep, always been that way, unfortunately.

I see that behavior now, but I don't believe it was always like that. And that's not intuitive, nor very useful.

About a year ago I worked with a timelapse. I was given a folder of images (Image Sequence). I set that preference, Shift-click to select all in the Browser, List View, and they all edited into the Timeline at the 1 second I set in the Preferences. I know I did that.

And that's how it worked in legacy FCP. 10 second default in the Browser, Still Image preference was the default duration when edited into the Timeline.

If it is simply a default range selection, that's not very intuitive. It should be re-named "Still Default Range".
