Replace clip was created by damiangrady
Hi all,
Is there a way to replace a clip with a new one in the time but retain the frame in and out points?
If I do a replace from start, obviously the clip length stays the same in the timeline but the new clip commences from frame 1. Likewise with the from end scenario.
I would try the relink route but I'm getting the incompatible file crap.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers

If I'm understanding, simple replace should give you want you want.

Hi Tom,
Not really as that increases the clip length in the timeline to the entire length of the clip.
Basically, I have a clip in the timeline with its in point at frame 320. I have another clip that I want to replace that with but also need it to start at frame 320.
I could of course dial all of this in or slide edit it into place but it seems like a bit of a faff for something that should be pretty simple.
A simple relink would also solve this issue were it not for the incompatible file nonsense which trust me, is compatible.

Relink would never work in any version of FCP. You have to dial in
320 into the browser clip and replace from start.
Misunderstanding because I thought you have IO I the browser clip.

Thanks Ben, I see.
I always thought the start referred to the beginning of the clip. I didn't realise that was overridden if there's an in point set.
Cheers
