Hi,
Trying to share a project which has been shot with a FS5. After importing the XML I have to relink the files. The relink window ask for .mov files. So I pressume the import on the other side has been done with optimized media. I know that I can find them in the library but I can't open the library in the relink window. What am I missing?
Thanks

I'm not clear what you have and what you don't have. You have the media in your library, or you don't have the media?
Optimization is not relevant. You have to relink to original media. Some formats get rewrapped when they're imported into FCP.

I have the media. Recorded on two cards at once. The editor used one card for a rough cut on her mac. Imported the second card on my mac. When I open the xml it opens in a second event. Have to relink the files from the card. A few of the clips in the project are black as you can see.

Import the media first then import the XML.

Hi Brinky
Going to go out on a limb here and someone else can correct me.
If 2 editors are importing the same media, but from 2 separate cards, then the 2 Macs and the camera itself, involved are going to attach different I.D.s to each card and all the files, even if recorded as mirrored at the same time. Think card A/card B; file 101A; file 101B. XML won't know how to link.
That's why you need to relink and having issues. The libraries should also have unique I.D.s for each Mac.
If you both import off the same card, you may save yourself some headaches. You could also import to only 1 Mac and then share the Library and this should work as it will come with correct I.D.s attached for all the files.
But bottom line, eventually FCPX should be able to relink, once you manually find the files. I just think your work flow is creating extra work/issues.
Hope this helps, Greg

I want to know how the DOP recorded to "two cards at once". That will reveal the issue. And I suspect, as stated previously, both cards have different names for the same clips.

A lot of cameras offer the option to simultaneously record footage to both cards as a redundant backup, as opposed to cascading the recording and spanning footage to multiple cards. I think Greg probably has the answer to the OP's issue.

Hi,
Back again, problem solved. Found out that the editor made a mxf without first importing the media. Sorry about that she said. And that's wat I'm saying to u to
btw the cards have same clip names
