I have one FS7 MXF file that won't import. It's the last file on the card. I thought it might be a span file that spread over to another card, but it doesn't look like it form what I can tell (the first file on the other card doesn't match).
FCPX sees the file fine and even shows it and lets me play it in the import window. I can also "open in timeline", where I was hoping to be able to export it, but FCPX won't let me.
I tried using VLC to convert, but I am not impressed with the result. I have to use h264 since there is no ProRes output option in VLC.
Anyway, any tricks to get this last file in? I see several MXF converters in the app store, but I don't want to just start randomly picking one. I tried a couple free ones and they failed miserably.

Ok, so I just answered my own question. I dragged the MXF from the data card to the desktop. I then dragged it into FCPX where it stayed as a reference file. I consolidated the event and it moved the MXF to the Original Media folder properly, but left it as an MXF (whereas all the other ingested media was rewrapped as MOV). I guess that's fine as long as it works, which it seems to. Plays in timeline fine.
I guess that begs he question: if FCPX can play MXF natively, why bother rewrapping as MOV? More efficient for editing somehow, like ProRes?

Two reasons that I can tell,
First, rewrapping moves externally stored metadata into the file, as well as combining spanned clips into a single file.
Second, it encodes the audio in an uncompressed format, which reduces audio glitches and CPU load, while only marginally increasing file size.
